Washington, D.C. – American entrepreneurs today celebrated the release of a joint statement highlighting essential digital trade policies designed to empower startups and SMEs in the digital economy. The collaborative effort underscores the crucial role digital technologies play in boosting small business growth and international competitiveness.
The joint statement emphasizes the necessity of trade rules tailored specifically for the digital era, advocating for policies that allow entrepreneurs to fully leverage digital opportunities. With nearly 90% of small businesses recognizing digital tools as essential for international expansion, initiatives focused on digital literacy, streamlined regulations, and improved market access have never been more critical.
“This joint statement marks a significant step forward,” said Hua Wang of the Global Innovation Forum. “Entrepreneurs have spoken clearly: digital tools aren’t optional—they’re vital. We are thrilled to see policymakers recognizing and supporting the critical role digital trade plays in driving growth and innovation.”
The entrepreneurs’ collective voice specifically highlighted the need for streamlined cross-border data flows, simplification of international business operations, removal of restrictive barriers on digital services, and prevention of discriminatory taxes on digital goods and transactions.
“The benefits of clear digital trade policies are substantial,” added Wang. “Improved global market access could boost small business sales by 14%, contribute an additional $81 billion to U.S. economic output, and create as many as 900,000 new jobs. These policies are about unlocking potential and empowering innovation on a global scale.”
The issuance of this joint statement reflects over 100 entrepreneurs from 30 states who collectively champion the significance of inclusive digital trade policies.
