The Pacific Island of Niue houses the Earth’s last known significant and sufficiently isolated stock of disease and parasite-free Italian honey bees. With help from Pacific Islands Forum, the Niuean government, the Standards and Trade Development Facility of the WTO, GIF and UPS, Niue is engaged in the establishment of the Pacific Bee Sanctuary. Much like Norway’s Global Seed Vault, the Sanctuary would provide the world with an insurance policy on pollinators. Niue can export healthy queens and genetic bee-breeding material to repopulate dwindling colony numbers in the Pacific region and worldwide.
The Niue Honey Company Ltd is exporting its award-winning honey to new international markets. It is relying on digital technologies across the e-commerce ecosystem, including tools that enable marketing, communications, payments, productivity and shipping.
