The APEC USA 2023 Private Sector Host Committee convened APEC Trade Ministers for a luncheon discussion that showcased Detroit and U.S.-based founders of dynamic startups that are using digital technologies to reach global markets. GIF Hua Wang led Farai Gundan, (Abantufy Payments), William Scott (Dynamo), and Ashley M. Williams (RIZZARR) in a conversation that highlighted both the barriers and keys to success for small companies seeking to compete on the global stage. Panelists identified access to capital, mentorships, and advocacy as three ingredients that have enabled them to take their businesses to the next level. In closing remarks, U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai, Peruvian Minister of Trade and Tourism Juan Carlos Mathews Salazar, and World Trade Organization Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala noted the importance of using gatherings like APEC – Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to hear directly from small companies that the needs of entrepreneurs across the globe should be considered when designing trade policy.
